Peddana's most famous work is Manu Charitra (also known as Svarochisha Manu Sambhavam), a poetic rendition of the story of Svarochisha Manu, the second of the 14 Manus (progenitors of mankind) according to Hindu mythology. The poem is based on an episode from the Markandeya Purana, and describes the birth and adventures of Manu, who falls in love with the celestial nymph Ila and faces many challenges and dangers to win her hand. The poem is also a reflection of the political and cultural milieu of Vijayanagara, and showcases Peddana's mastery of language, imagery, and style.
Manu Charitra is considered to be one of the finest examples of classical Telugu poetry, and has influenced many later poets and writers. It is also a valuable source of information on the history, society, religion, and art of the Vijayanagara period. The poem consists of six chapters (sargas) and about 3000 verses (slokas) in the campu style, which mixes prose and verse.
